After High School I spent six months on active duty as a member of the Utah National Guard, 19th Special Forces. I spent time in Fort Ord, CA for basic training (the final day of my basic training, President Kennedy was assassinated), Fort Dix New Jersey for radio school and Fort Benning, GA for jump school.
After the six month obligation, I attended the U of U until I left for a mission to the Northwestern States in January of 1965. Upon my return I transferred to BYU, married a lady from Utah County and remained in Utah County for 17 years. I moved back to Salt Lake in 1987 as a single.
I have been in the real estate brokerage/investment/development business since 1976. I live with my wife of 33 years, the former Hilea Patterson (Highland High), in Sandy at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon. We have seven children between us, my five and her two.
We enjoy traveling and spending time with family at our cabin in Big Cottonwood Canyon. We have sailed in Tahiti and the British Virgin Islands. We have fished for Salmon in Canada and Alaska. On one of the Alaskan trips, Hilea caught a 220# Halibut.
We enjoy biking in foreign lands and have ridden along the Danube, through the farm lands of Germany, Austria. the Czech Republic and on the Dalmatian Islands in Croatia. For the last several years we have participated in the MS ride in Logan, Utah in honor of my sister Tamera, who passed away at 49 due to complications associated with Multiple Sclerosis.
We are semi-retired. We each have cut back to 40-50 hours a week. Hilea sells residential real estate and is a past President of the Salt Lake Board o Realtors. We both volunteer with the Road Home and have served as members of the board of Trustees. Hilea served for several years and as and as President in 2011. I joined the Board after her term expired and served as President in 2017. Hilea also serves on the board of a credit union as its Vice Chair.
I stayed away from development during the downturn, investing in failed bank loans and restructuring of debt for builders and returned to development after the downturn and developed a mixed use project in Ogden along the Ogden River just north of the Ogden Temple. My partners and I are looking for other development opportunities and I continue to represent commercial real estate clients.
I have been active in the real estate industry, my church and the community. I served on the planning commission for Salt Lake County, eight years as a real estate commissioner, President of the Utah Association of Realtors, member of the board of the National Association of Realtors and the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials. I have had the opportunity of serving in a number of church callings over the years.

Dwight was a true gentleman. I got to know Dwight better after High School. We served together in the 19th Special Forces and I knew him through business. He will be missed. His children and grandchildren were great in honoring him at his services. God speed Dwight. You will continue as a light to all on the other side. Your Mother and Dad and family are greeting you with their smiles and open arms.

Good to hear from you Terry. When I last talked with your parents, they indicated you were in bountiful and in the glass business. We are in the process of buying a property in the St. George area, we will have to get together.
